1 Then God spoke all these words, saying,
2 I am Yahweh your God,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt
and out of the house of slavery.
3 You shall not have for yourself another god before me.
4 You shall not make for yourself an idol,
or any likeness which is in the heavens above,
or which is on the earth beneath,
or which is in the waters beneath the earth.
5 You shall not worship them,
and you shall not serve them.
For I am Yahweh your God,
a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
6 but showing mercy to thousands of those who love me
and keep my commandments.
7 You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain.
For Yahweh will not hold guiltless
whoever takes my name in vain.
8 Remember the day of Shabbat to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall work and do all your labor.
10 But the seventh day is the Shabbat of Yahweh your God.
You shall not do any of your labor,
you, or your son, or your daughter,
or your servant, or your maidservant,
or your cattle, or the stranger which is within your gates.
11 For in six days Yahweh made
the heavens and the earth and the sea,
and all that is in them,
and he rested on the seventh day.
Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day,
and made it holy.
12 Honor your father and your mother,
so that your days may be prolonged on the ground
which Yahweh your God is giving you.
13 You shall not murder.
14 You shall not commit adultery.
15 You shall not steal.
16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 You shall not covet the house of your neighbor.
You shall not covet the wife of your neighbor,
or his servant, or his maidservant,
or his ox, or his donkey,
or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.”
18 Then all the people saw the thunders and the lightnings,
and the sound of the shofar,
and the mountain smoking,
and when the people saw they stood afar off.
19 And they said to Moses,
“Speak now to us and we will listen.
But do not let God speak to us lest we die.”
20 Then Moses said to the people,
“You shall not fear.
For it is in order to test you that God has come,
in order that his fear shall be before you
so that you will not sin.”
21 But the people stood afar off,
as Moses drew near the thickness,
which in there was God.
22 Then Yahweh said to Moses,
“Thus you shall say to the children of Israel:
‘You have seen that I talked with you from heaven.
23 You shall not make for me gods of silver,
and gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves.
24 An altar of the ground you shall make for me,
and sacrifice upon it burnt offerings and peace offerings,
your sheep and your cattle.
In all the places where my name is remembered
I will come to you and I will bless you.
25 And if you shall make an altar of stone for me,
you shall not build it from hewn stone,
for the tool that you raise upon it will pollute it.
26 And you shall not go up stairs to my altar,
that your nakedness shall not be discovered upon it.’”
