1 Kings 8

1 Then Solomon gathered
all the elders of Israel,
all the heads of the tribes,
the princes,
the fathers of the children of Israel,
to king Solomon of Jerusalem,

to bring up the Ark of Yahweh
of the covenant,
from the City of David,
which is Zion.

2 So gathered
to King Solomon
all the men of Israel,
in the month of Ethanim,
in the feast which is the seventh of the month.

3 So came
all the elders of Israel,
and the priests took up the Ark.

4 Then they brought up the Ark of Yahweh,
and the tent of the assembly,
and all the holy vessels,
which were in the tent.
And the priests
and the Levites
brought them up.

5 Then King Solomon,
and all the assembly of Israel
that were assembled to him,

with the Ark before him,
sacrificed sheep and cattle
which could not be counted,
and could not be weighed
from their abundance.

6 Then the priests brought
the Ark of Yahweh
of the covenant
unto its place,
unto the oracle of the house,
unto the holy of holies,
unto beneath the wings of the Cherubim.
7 For the Cherubim spread forth their wings
unto the place of the Ark.
And the Cherubim covered over the Ark,
and over its staves above.

8 And they drew out the staves.
The ends staves were seen from the holy place,
in front of the oracle,
but were not seen outside of it,
and they are there to this very day.

9 There was nothing in the Ark,
except the two tablets of stone,
which Moses place there in Horeb,
when Yahweh made a covenant
with the children of Israel,
when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

10 So it happened,
when the priests came out from the holy place,
that the cloud filled the house of Yahweh.
11 And the priests were not able
to stand to minister because of the cloud,
for the glory of Yahweh filled the house of Yahweh.

12 The Solomon said,
"Yahweh said he would dwell in gloom,
13 but surely I have built a house for you to dwell in,
a habitation for you to dwell in forever."
14 Then the king turned his face,
and blessed all the gathered of Israel,
and all the gathered of Israel stood.

15 And he said,
"Blessed be the God of Israel,
who gave the word of his mouth
to David my father.
And by his hand he has fulfilled it, saying,
16 'From the day which I brought
my people Israel from Egypt,
have I not chosen a city
from the tribes of Israel,
to build a house that my name might be there.
And I chose David to be over my people Israel.'"

17 "And it was in the heart of David my father
to build a house for the name
of Yahweh the God of Israel.
18 But Yahweh said to David my father,
'Because it was in your heart
to build a house for my name,
you have done well,
for it was in your heart.
19 But you shall not build the house,
for it is with your son,
who comes from your loins,
he will build the house for my name.'"

20 "And Yahweh exalted his word which he spoke.
And I am exalted in the place of David my father,
and I sit on the throne of Israel,
just as Yahweh gave his word.
And I have built the house
for the name of Yahweh the God of Israel.
21 And I have set there a place for the Ark,
which therein is the covenant of Yahweh,
which he made with our forefathers,
when he brought them out of the land of Egypt."

22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of Yahweh,
before all the gathered of Israel,
and spread forth his hands to the heavens,
and said,
"O Yahweh God of Israel,
there is no God like you,
in the heavens above,
or on the earth below,
who keeps the covenant of love with his servants,
who walk before you with all their heart."

24 "Who has kept with your servant,
David my father,
the word which you spoke to him with your mouth,
and with your hand you have fulfilled it
to this very day."
25 And now, Yahweh God of Israel,
keep with your servant, David my father,
your word to him in which you said,
"
