The Passover
1 Then Yahweh [God] said to Moses
and Aaron,
in the land of Egypt,
saying,
2 This month is the first
of the months for you,
it is the first of the months
of the year for you."
3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel,
saying,
"On the tenth of this month,
Let each man take for themeselves
a lamb for the house of the fathers,
a lamb for a house."
4 "And if the house be too small for a lamb,
then let him take his neighbor next to him
into his house,
for the number of people,
counting each man the number of mouths
to be fed by the lamb."
5 "An unblemished male lamb,
one year old, will be for you,
taken from the sheep
or from the goats.
6 And they shall keep it
until the fourteenth day of this month,
and they shall slaughter it,
all the assembly
of the congregation of Israel,
in the evening."
7 "Then take from the blood
and put it on the two doorposts
and on the lintel of the houses,
wherever they eat it."
8 "And they shall eat the flesh that
night,
roasted with fire,
and with unleavened bread bitter herbs
you shall eat it.
9 You shall not eat it raw,
or boiled in water at all,
but only roasted with fire,
its head with its legs and with its insides.
10 And you shall not leave any of it
until morning. (Ex 16:19)
And whatever remains of it in the morning
you shall burned with fire."
11 "And thus you shall eat it,
your loins girded,
your sandals on your feet,
your staff in your hand.
And eat it in haste,
it is the Passover of Yahweh."
12 "And I will
pass through
the land of
Egypt
on that night,
and I will smite all the firstborn
in the land
of the Egyptians,
from man to beast.
And I will pass judgment
against all the gods of Egypt.
I am Yahweh."
13 "But the blood will be a sign for you
upon the houses, that you are there.
And when I see the blood,
I will Passover you.
And the plague of corruption
will not be upon you
when I smite
the land of
the Egyptians."
Priestly Instructions
14 "And that day will be a memorial for
you,
and you shall observe a feast to Yahweh.
You shall observe the feast for generations
as an everlasting statute."
15 "Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread,
even on the first day
you shall elimiate leaven from you houses.
For whoever eats leavened bread,
that soul will be cut off from Israel,
from the first day to the seventh day."
16 "And on the first day a holy gathering.
And on the seventh day a holy gathering.
There shall not be any work
done by you in them,
except for that so that all the souls may eat,
that alone you may do for them."
17 And keep the Unleavened Bread.
For on this same day
I brought out your hosts
from the land of Egypt.
So keep this day for generations
as an everlasting statute."
18 "In the first month,
on on the evening of the
the fourteenth day of the month,
you shall eat the unleavened bread,
until the evening of the twenty-first day
of the month."
19 "For seven days,
leaven shall not be found in your houses,
for anyone who eats leavened bread,
that soul shall be cut off
from the congregation of Israel,
whether a stranger or one born in the land.
20 You shall not eat anything leavened,
in all your habitations
you shall eat unleavened bread."
21 Then Moses called
for all the elders of Israel,
and said to them,
"Draw out and take for yourselves
a sheep for your families,
and slaughter the Passover."
22 "And take a stalk of hyssop
and dip it in the blood,
which is in the basin,
and touch it upon the lintel
and upon the two doorposts,
from the blood which is in the basin."
"And none of you shall go out
from the door of his house until morning.
23 And Yahweh will pass through
to strike the Egyptians,
but when he sees the blood
upon the lintel
and upon the two doorposts,
then Yahweh will Passover over the door,
and will not allow the corruption to come
to your houses to strike."
24 "So keep this thing for a statute,
for you and for your children forever.
25 And it will be,
when you shall come to the land,
which Yahweh will give to you
just as he has said,
that you shall keep this service."
26 "And it will be,
when your children will say to you,
'What is this service to you?'
27 Then say,
'It is the sacrifice of Yahweh's Passover,
when he Passed Over the houses
of the children of Israel in Egypt,
when he struck the Egyptians,
and delivered our houses,
and humbled the people,
and they worshipped."
28 Then the children of Israel
went away and did it.
Just as Yahweh commanded Moses
and Aaron, so they did.
29 And it happened in the middle of the night,
that Yahweh
[God]
smote all the firstborn
in the land
of Egypt,
from the firstborn of Pharaoh,
who sits on his throne,
to the firstborn of the captive,
who is in the pit of the house,
and all the firstborn of the cattle.
30 Then Pharaoh rose up in the night,
he and all his servants,
and all Egypt.
And there was a great shriek
among the Egyptians,
for there was not a house
where there was not one dead.
31 And he called to Moses
and Aaron
in the night, and said,
"Rise up, go out from the midst of my people,
both you and the children of Israel,
and go serve Yahweh as you have said.
32 Also take your flocks and your herds,
just as you have said,
and be gone.
And bless me also!"
33 Then the Egyptians pressed them in haste,
to send them forth from the land,
for they said,
"We shall die!"
Unleavened Bread
34 Then the people took their dough
before it was leavened.
They bound up their kneeding troughs
in their clothed upon their shoulders.
35 And the children of Israel did
according to the word of Moses,
and borrowed from the Egyptians
jewelry of silver,
and jewelry of gold,
and clothing.
36 And Yahweh gave favor to the people
in the eyes of the Egyptians,
and they lent it to them.
So they spoiled the Egyptians.
37 Then the children of Israel
journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth,
about six-hundred thousand on foot,
the men beside families.
38 And also a mixed multitude
went up with them,
and flocks many great herds of cattle.
39 And they baked the dough
which they brought from Egypt,
unleaved cakes,
for it had not been leavened,
for they were driven out from Egypt
and they were not able to wait,
and they had made not food for themselves.
40 So the sojourn of the children of Israel
when they dwelled in Egypt
was 430 years.
41 So it was,
at the end of the 430 years,
and it was on that very same day,
that all the host of Yahweh
came out of Egypt.
42 It is a night to be kept for Yahweh.
It is for the bringing out
from the land of Egypt.
This night is to be kept for Yahweh,
for all the children of Israel
for generations.
43 Then Yahweh said
to Moses and to Aaron,
"This statute of the Passover,
and son of a stranger may not eat of it.
44 But any servant a man has bought
with money, and circumcized him,
then he may eat of it.
45 A foreigner and a hireling
may not eat of it.
46 In one house you shall eat it.
The flesh of it shall not go
outside of the house.
And you shall not break the bone of it.
47 All the congregation of Israel
shall do this."
48 "And if a guest visits with you
while you are doing Passover,
let all his males be circumcized,
then let him come near to do it,
and he will be as a native in the land.
49 There will be one Law,
for the native and vistor
who visits in your midst."
50 And so did all the children of Israel.
Just as Yahweh commanded Moses and Aaron,
so they did.
51 And it was on that very same day,
that Yahweh brought
the children of Israel
from the land of Egypt by their hosts.
