1 In the year of the death of king Uzziah.
And I saw the Lord sitting upon the throne,
high and lifted up,
and his train filling the temple,
2 Seraphim standing above him,
each one having six wings.
With two he covers his face,
with two he covers his feet,
and with two he flies.
3 And this one cried out to the other,
and said,
"Holy holy holy is Yahweh of Hosts,
all the land is full of his glory."
4 Then the posts of the door moved
at the voice of the one who cried out,
and the house was filled with smoke.
6 Then I said,
"Woe to me for I have been silent,
for I am a man of unclean lips,
and I dwell among a people of unclean lips.
For my eyes have seen the king,
O Yahweh of Hosts."
7 Then one of the Seraphim flew to me,
and in his hand was a coal in the tongs,
taken from upon the altar.
Then he touched it upon my mouth, and said,
"Behold, this has touched upon your lips,
and your iniquity is taken away,
and your sin is atoned."
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying,
"Whom shall I send?
And who will go for us?"
And I said,
"Behold me! Send me!"
9 Then he said to me,
"Go and say this to the people,
'Surely you hear, but do not understand.
Surely you see, but do not know.
10 Make the heart of this people fat,
and their ears heavy,
and their eyes shut.
Lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn back, and be healed.'"
11 Then I said,
"How long, O Lord?"
And he said,
"Until cities are wasted without inhabitant,
and houses without man,
and the land be utterly desolate,
12 and Yahweh has removed man,
and the greater part of the land
has been forsaken."
13 "But still in it a tenth will return,
and will be as a tree for the burning,
and as an oak which is felled
leaving its root.
The holy seed is her root."
