The Plague of Locusts
1 Then Yahweh said to Moses,
"Go to Pharaoh,
For I have glorified his heart,
and the heart of his servants,
so that I might show these signs before him,
2 and so that you might tell it in the ears
of your sons and your son's sons,
what I have worked in Egypt,
and the signs which I have done in them.
That you may know
that I am Yahweh.
3 Then Moses
and Aaron
went
to Pharaoh
and said to him,
"Thus says Yahweh
the God of the Hebrews,
'How long will your refuse
to humble yourself before me?
For if you refuse to send forth my people,
behold,
I will bring tomorrow,
locusts into your borders."
5 "And they will cover the eye of the land,
and you will not be able to see the land.
And they will eat what is left that escaped,
that remains for you from the hail.
And they will eat every tree,
that grows for you from the field.
6 And they will fill your houses,
and the houses of all your servants,
and the houses of all Egypt,
which your fathers did not see,
or your father's fathers,
from the day you were upon the ground,
until this day."
Then he turned
and went away from Pharaoh.
7 And the servants of Pharaoh said to him,
"How long will this one be a snare to us?
Send the men forth
that they may serve Yahweh their God.
Do you know yet know
that Egypt is defeated?"
8 Then Moses and Aaron
returned to Pharaoh,
and he said to them,
"Go and serve Yahweh your God.
Who are they that will go?"
9 And Moses said,
"With our young and our old we will go.
With our sons and our daughters,
and our flocks and our herds we will go,
for a feast of Yahweh for us."
10 And he said to them,
"Yahweh will be with you,
if I send forth you and your little ones,
see, evil is surely before your face.
11 Not so, go now the mighty ones
and serve Yahweh,
for this is what you wanted."
Then they were driven out
from before Pharaoh.
12 Then Yahweh said to Moses,
"Put forth your hand
over the land of Egypt for the locusts,
and bring them up
upon the land of Egypt,
and eat every plant of the land,
and all that remains from the hail."
13 Then Moses put forth his staff,
over the land of Egypt,
and Yahweh
drove an east wind in the land,
all that day and all the night.
And it was in the morning
the east wind brought the locusts.
14 And the locusts came up
upon all the land of Egypt,
and rested
in all the borders of Egypt,
very heavy upon its face.
There had not been such locusts like
this,
and afterwards there has not been such,
15 for they covered the eye of all the land,
and the land was darkened.
And they ate every plant of the field,
and every fruit tree
that remained from the hail,
and not green thing remained on a tree,
or a plant in the field,
in all the land of Egypt.
16 Then in haste,
Pharaoh called to Moses and
Aaron,
and said,
"I have sinned against Yahweh your God,
and against you.
17 So now, forgive please, my sin,
this time only,
and intercede to Yahweh your God,
and take away from me only this death."
18 So he went away from Pharaoh,
and interceded to Yahweh.
19 And Yahweh turned a west wind
very strong,
and took away the locusts,
and cast them into the Reed Sea.
Not one locust was left
in all the borders of Egypt.
20 But Yahweh strengthened
the heart of Pharaoh,
and he did not send forth the sons of Israel.
The Plague of Darkness
21 Then Yahweh said to Moses,
put forth your hand to the heavens,
and there will be Darkness
upon the land of Egypt,
and the Darkness will be felt.
22 So Moses put forth his hand
to the heavens,
and there was thick Darkness
in all the land of Egypt,
three days.
23 They did not see one another,
and they did not rise up from their place,
three days.
But for all the sons of Israel,
there was light in their habitations.
24 The Pharaoh called to Moses, and
said,
"Go serve Yahweh.
Only leave your flocks and your herds.
Also, your little ones may go with you."
25 But Moses said,
"You must give sacrifices in our hands also,
that we might offer burnt offerings
to Yahweh our God.
26 And our cattle must go with us also,
not a hoof shall remain,
for will will take from them
to serve Yahweh our God.
And we do not know how we will serve Yahweh
until we come there."
27 But Yahweh strengthened
the heart of Pharaoh,
and he did not consent to send them forth.
28 So Pharaoh said to him,
"Go from me!
Take heed for yourself!
Do not see my face anymore!
For in the day you see my face you shall die."
29 Then Moses said,
"So you have spoken.
Never again will I see your face."
