Exodus 9

The Plague of Pestilence

1 Then Yahweh [God] said to Moses,
"Go
to Pharaoh and speak to him,
'Thus says
Yahweh
the God of the Hebrews,
Send forth my people that they may serve me.
2 For if you refuse to send them forth,

and still hold strong to them,
behold, the hand of Yahweh

will be upon your cattle,
which are in the field,
your horses, your donkeys,
your camels, your oxen,
and your sheep,
a pestilence very heavy."

4 "But Yahweh will separate
between the cattle of Israel,
and will not die
from all the sons of Israel anything."

5 Then Yahweh appointed a set time, saying,
"Tomorrow Yahweh has appointed
this thing in the land."
6 And Yahweh did that thing the next day,
and all the cattle of Egypt died,
but from the cattle of the sons of Israel
not one died.
7 And Pharaoh sent forth,
and behold,
from the cattle of Israel
not even one died.

But Pharaoh glorified his heart
and did not send forth the people.

The Plague of Boils

8 Then Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron,
"Take for yourself handfulls of ashes
from the furnace,
and scatter it, Moses, to the heavens,
in the eyes of Pharaoh.
9 And it will be for dust
upon all the land of Egypt,
and it will be upon the man and the beast,
to a boil breaking forth in sores,
in all the land of Egypt."

10 So they took the ashes of the furnace,
and stood before Pharaoh,
and Moses scattered them to the heavens,
and it became boils of sores
breaking forth upon man and beast.

11 And the magicians were not able
to stand before Moses
from the presence of the boils,
because the boils were upon the magicians
and upon all the Egyptians.

12 But the heart of Pharaoh strengthened
and he did not listen to them,
just as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

The Plague of Hail

13 Then Yahweh [God] said to Moses,
"Rise up early in the morning,
and stand before
Pharaoh,
and say to him,

Thus says Yahweh
the God of the Hebrews,
Send forth my people that they may serve me."

14 "For at this time I will send forth
all my plagues upon your heart,

and upon your servants,
and upon your people,
that you shall know
that there is none like me in all the earth."

15 "For now,
I will
stretch forth my hand and smite you,
and your people,
with pestilance,
and you shall be cut off from the earth."

16 "However, I have raised you up for this,
in order to show you my power,
so that my name may be declared
in all the earth.
17 And yet you have exalted yourself
against my people,
and will not send them forth."

18 "Behold,
I will make it rain,

about this time tomorrow,
a very heavy hail,
which there has not been like it in Egypt,
from the day of its foundation until now."

19 "So now, send forth,
gather your cattle,
and all that are yours in the field,
all the man and the beast
which you find in the field.
And whatever is not brought into the house,
the hail will come down upon them
and they will die."

20 Those that feared the word of Yahweh
among the servants of Pharaoh,
the servants made the cattle flee
into the houses.
21 But whoever did not set their heart
on the word of Yahweh,
those servants forsook the cattle
in the field.

22 Then Yahweh said to Moses,
"Put forth your hand to the heavens,
and there will be hail
upon all the land of Egypt,
upon the man and upon the beast,
and upon every plant in the field
in the land of Egypt."

23 Then Moses put forth his staff
to the heavens.
And Yahweh sent thunder and hail,
and fire ran along the ground.

And Yahweh rained hail
upon the land of Egypt.

24 And there was hail,
and fire mixed in the midst of the hail,
very heavy,
which there has not been like it
in all the land of Egypt
since it became a nation.

25 And the hail smote
upon all the land of Egypt.
All that were in the field,
from man to beast,
and every plant of the field,
the hail smote,
and every tree of the field broke.

26 Only in the land of Goshen,
where the sons of Israel were,
there was no hail.

27 Then Pharaoh sent
and called to Moses
and Aaron,
and said to them,
"I have sinned this time.
Yahweh is righteous,
and I and my people are evil.
28 Intercede to Yahweh,
that would be done from happening
the thunderings of God and hail
,
and I will send them forth,
and they will not stay any longer."

29 So Moses said to him,
"As I go from the city,
I will spread out my hand to Yahweh
,
the thunder will cease,
and the hail will not happen anymore,
so that you shall know
that the earth is Yahweh's."

30 "But you and your servants,
I know that you do not yet fear
the presence of Yahweh God."

31 And the barley and the flax were smitten,
for the barley eared,
and the flax bolled.
32 But the wheat and the rye
were not smitten,
for they were not grown up.

33 Then Moses went forth
from Pharaoh and the city,
and spread forth his hands to Yahweh,
and the thunders and the hail ceased,
and rain was not poured on the land.
34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain,
the hail, and the thunders ceased,
once again he sinned,

and the hearts of him
and his servants glorified.

35 But the heart of Pharaoh strengthened,
and he did not send forth the sons of Israel,
just as Yahweh had spoken
by the hand of Moses.
