Psalm 12

Priestly Intro

1 For the chief musician,
upon the lyre,
a psalm for David.

Priestly Petition

2 Save, Yahweh,
for the godly one ceases.
For the faithful fail
from the children of men.

3 Everyone speaks lies to his neighbor.
They speak with flattering lips
and a double heart.

4 Yahweh will cut off
all the flattering lips,
the tongue that speaks proud things.
5 Who have said,
"With our tongue we will prevail,
our lips are our own,
who is lord over us?"

6 "For the oppression of the poor,
for the sighing of the needy
I will arise,"
declares Yahweh.
"I will set him in safety
from him who scoffs at him."

7 The words of Yahweh
are words of pure silver,
refined in an earthen furnace,
purified seven times.

8 You, Yahweh, shall keep them.
You shall preserve them
from this generation forever.

9 On every side the wicked walk,
while the vilest of the sons of men
are exalted.
