Priestly Intro
1 Then Moses sang,
and the children of Israel,
this song to Yahweh.
And they spoke, saying:
Southern War Song
I will sing to Yahweh,
for he has surely triumphed,
the horse and his chariot (Ex 14:23)
he has thrown into the sea.
2 My Strength
and my Song are Yah! (Isa 12:2)
And he has become my Salvation!
This is my God,
and I will keep him in my home,
the God of my father,
and I will exalt him.
3 Yahweh is a man of war,
Yahweh is his name.
Priestly Exodus Song
4 The chariots of Pharaoh and his army (Ex 14:17)
he has cast into the sea.
And his chosen captains (Ex 14:7)
are drowned in the Sea of Reeds. (Ex 13:18)
5 The depths have covered them. (Ex 14:28)
They sank to the bottom as they were a stone.
6 Your hand, Yahweh,
has become great in power.
Your hand, Yahweh,
has dashed to pieces the enemy.
7 In the greatness of your excellency,
you have overthrown your uprisers.
You have sent forth your wrath,
you consumed them as stubble.
8 And by the breath of your nostrils,
the waters were gathered together.
They stood up as they were a heap,
the floods were congealed,
the depths in the hear of the sea.
9 The enemy said,
"I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil. (Isa 8:1)
My sould shall be satisfied,
I will draw my sword,
my hand shall destroy them."
10 You blew your breath,
the sea covered them.
They sank as lead
in the mighty waters.
11 Who is like you among
the gods,
Yahweh?
Who is like you,
glorious in holiness,
awesome in praises,
working wonders? (Isa 29:14)
12 Your stretched forth your right hand,
the earth swallowed them.
13 You led forth in mercy
the people you have redeemed.
You guided them in your strength
to the habitation of your Sanctuary.
14 The people shall hear and be afraid.
Sorrow will take hold
of the inhabitants of Palestine.
15 Then the dukes of Edom will tremble.
Trembling will seize
the mighty men of Moab.
All who dwell in Canaaan will melt away.
16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them.
By the greatness of your arm
they will be still as a stone,
until your people pass through, Yahweh,
until pass throught these people
you purchased.
17 You shall bring them
and plant them
on the Mountain of your inheritance,
in the place of the dwelling
you have made for yourself, Yahweh,
the Sanctuary, Lord,
your hand has established.
Yahweh,
you will reign forever and ever!
19 For the horse and chariot of
Pharaoh
and his horsemen went into the sea,
and Yahweh returned upon them
the waters of the sea.
"But the sons of Israel walked
on dry ground in the midst of the sea."
The Song of Miriam
20 Then Miriam the prophet,
the sister of Aaron,
took a timbrel in her hand,
and all the women went out after her
with timbrels and with dancing.
21 And Miram answered to them,
"Sing unto Yahweh,
for he has surely triumphed,
the horse and his chariot
he has thrown into the sea."
The Waters at Marah
22 Then Moses led Israel
from the Sea of Reeds,
and they went to the Wilderness of Shur.
Then they walked three days
into the wilderness
and they did not find water.
23 And they came to Marah,
but they could not drink
the waters from Marah,
for they were bitter.
That is why it is called Marah.
24 And the people grumbled to Moses,
saying, "What shall we drink?"
So they shrieked to
Yahweh
[God].
25 So Yahweh
[God] showed them a tree,
and they cast it into the waters,
and the waters were made sweet.
There he made for them
a statute and an ordinance.
And there he tested them.
26 And he said,
"If you shall truly listen,
to the voice of Yahweh your God,
and do that which is upright in his eyes,
and give ear to his commandments,
and keep all his statutes,
all the diseasaes which I put on the Egyptians,
I will not put them on you.
For I am Yahweh your Healer."
27 Then they came to Elim,
and there were twelve wells of water,
and seventy palm trees,
and they camped there by the waters.
