Southern Story
But Yahweh provided a great fish
to swallow Jonah up.
And Jonah was in the belly of the fish
for three days and three nights.
1 Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God
from the belly of the fish,
and said,
Southern Yahweh Song
2 I cried out from my affliction,
to Yahweh, and he answered me.
From the belly of Sheol I cried,
you heard my voice.
3 When you cast me deep
into the midst of the seas,
and the flood surrounded me,
all your billows and your waves
passed over me.
4 Then I said,
"I am expelled out of your sight."
Yet I will again look
upon your Holy Temple.
5 The waters engulfed me to the soul,
the deep surrounded me,
a reed was wrapped around me head.
6 To the bottom of the mountains
I descended,
the earth with her bars
wrapped around me forever.
Then you raised my life up from the pit,
O Yahweh my God!
7 When my soul fainted within me,
I remembered Yahweh.
And my prayer came to you,
to your Holy Temple.
8 They that hold to false vanities
forsake their own mercy.
9 But I, with a voice of thanksgiving,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will fulfill.
Salvation belongs to you, Yahweh!
Hezekian Story

and it vomited Jonah
onto the dry land.
