Psalm 2

Southern Royal Song

1 Why do the nations rage,
and the people plot in vain?
2 They appoint themselves
kings of the land,
and set up rulers together,
against Yahweh and
against his Anointed One.
3 "Let us break their bonds,
and cast their cords away from us."

4 He that sits in the heavens laughs,
the Lord derides them.
5 Then he speaks to them in his anger,
and in his displeasure frightens them.
6 "But I have anointed my King,
upon Zion, my Holy Mountain."

7 "I will declare a statute,"
Yahweh says to himself,
"You are my Son,
today I have born you.
8 Ask of me
and I will give you the nations,

as your inheritance
and your possession,
to the ends of the earth."

"You shall break them
with a rod of iron.
Like a potter's vessel
you shall dash them to pieces."

Priestly Wisdom

10 Therefore kings be wise,
be instructed judges of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh in fear,
and rejoice in trembling.

12 Kiss the Son lest he be angry,
and you shall perish on the way,
when his wrath is kindled for a little.
Blessed are all who make refuge in him.
