Psalm 42

Priestly Intro

1 For the chief musician,
a maskil for the sons of Korah.

Northern Song

As the deer pant for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, God.
2 My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When will I go and appear before God?

3 My tears have been food day and night,
when they say to all the day,
"Where is your God?"

Preistly Interlude

4 These I will remember
when I pour out my soul,
that I had gone with the crowd,
I walked to the house of God,
with the sound of rejoicing and praise,
a multude of the festival.

5 Why are you downcast, my soul,
and disquieted within me?
Hope in God.
For yet I will praise him,
the salvations of my presence.

6 Therefore I will remember you
from the land of Jordan,
and the Hermonites from Mount Mizar.

7 Deep calls out to deep,
the voice of your waterspouts,
all your waves and your billows go over me.

8 Daily Yahweh will command his love,
and in the night his song is with me.

A prayer to the God of my life.

I will say unto God my Stone,
"Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go about in morning
because of the oppression of my enemies?

10 My troublers reproach me
with a sword in my bones,
when they say to me all the day,
"Where is your God?"

5 Why are you downcast, my soul,
and why disquieted within me?
Hope in God.
For yet I will praise him,
the salvations of my presence,
and my God.
